Mike Caplan, ABC Channel 7 Chicago weatherguy at 4 p.m. and the eye behind the lens at Caplan Studios, will greet members and visitors, talk with them about his fine art digital photography and showcase his work during the Artists Take Root series at the Arboretum store, from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Caplan Studios, based in the Chicago area, reveals a new aspect of the veteran weatherman’s love of nature. With an eye to the sky and an eye to the viewfinder, his attention-to-detail images capture nature’s hidden moments – from intimate wildlife portraits to vast scenic shots, compelling weather images and specialized views of The Morton Arboretum.
Whether he’s zooming in on the delicate detail of a floral subject or catching the precise moment when someone’s personality is about to shine, Caplan’s artistic vision is in precise focus.
“When you’re charged with predicting the weather on Channel 7 for a living, I’ve found it quite useful to take a look outside occasionally,” he says. “While I will never uncover all of nature’s secrets, through photography, I invite you to share some of the world I see, and more importantly, how I see it.”
Caplan’s fine art images are available for sale as note cards in The Arboretum Store. For more information and to view other photographs in his portfolio, visit Caplan’s online gallery.
For more about Caplan and his work and visit here, tune in to WBEZ-FM radio, on Thursday, Sept. 3, during the “848″ program from 9-10 a.m. (and rebroadcast that night from 8-9 p.m.). The station is scheduled to run a piece about Caplan’s visit to the Arboretum Store on Sept. 5.
