Found one branch or several lilac trees in my side yard with a realy strange fungus or lichen. Goes from the base of the brach to the very to, only on the south side of the branch, white, and rather beautiful. Concern it is harmful and could spread to others. Have a yard with many old beautiful trees and bushes do not want to leave unattended if it should spread or be dangerous.

My 300 year-old white oak, backyard environment, has dropped many hundreds of small, leafy twigs, up to pencil diameter, this Fall. Most have green leaves and the breaks are usually at a circular ring on the twig. It’s not squirrels since most have a convex protrusion at the base. None of our other oaks are demonstrating this. Any ideas on the cause?
