Animal eating my bulbs

I planted 200 scilla bulbs and something at night time is digging them up! I’ve covered them with leaf mulch, pine needles and ammonia soaked rags but something is still digging. Anybody have a better idea before they are all gone? Thanks!

  1. Plant Clinic Says:

    Hi, Maureen:

You could place some sort of mesh over the area, anchoring it with rocks. That way, the animals can’t get to them. If it’s a fine mesh, move it in spring so the scilla can grow! Or you could plant a larger mesh over the bulbs when you plant them. If the mesh is large enough for the scilla to grow through it, you don’t have to move it.
