canadian cherry trees

I had 4 Canadian Cherry trees – three of which developed a very ugly black knot fungus on the branches and trunk. Is there any way to keep this from spreading? I’ve tried cutting out the fungus and wiping the blade every cut with alcohol to no avail. We have had to remove 2 trees and really want to save the 3rd.

Please help!

Unfortunately my answer would be no, you cannot stop it from spreading. The fungus exists beyond what you are removing. I would recommend removing the trees. Black knot only affects the genus Prunus.
