The fountain ball is not the only one of its kind. You can find ball fountains ranging in size from 2- to 12-feet in diameter in public spaces around the world. Most often these are engraved with a globe. Ours is unique because it is not merely a decorative amusement. We had it engraved with leaves of trees that can be found at The Morton Arboretum because we wanted children to notice different kinds of tree leaves.

Hitchcock Design Group, a landscape design firm of Naperville, helped create and order this feature for our Children’s Garden. They worked with us to select the color of the stone and acquire it from Quarry Line, Inc. The granite was quarried and engraved in Finland.

The images on the ball and base came from various resource books, arranged by graphic artists at the arboretum.

The water pump system supporting the ball was designed and built by Fountain Technologies.
