Dropping leaves in August

Last year in April, we had about 8 large trees pruned and treated with deep root fertilization. The trees seemed fine, but we did not notice any new growth. This year, seemed we had rain every day in May and in July or no rain at all. The leaves on all of our trees -  Norway Maple, Red Maple, Horsechestnut and Elm – are all dropping their leaves – in August. The defoliation is pretty significant for all of the trees. We also noticed that now it has started to rain again, there is alot of “soapy suds” coming down the Maple trees and pooling at the base. We live in a heavily treed area of the city and none of our neighbors are experiencing anything like this. Any ideas if this has anything to do with the “deep root fertilization” or just a symptom of the weather?
