I have white or light green spots all over the bark of the tree. will this kill it or can i treat it with something i had this tree for 20 plus years

    This sounds like it could be lichen, which will not kill the tree and is in fact an indication that you have clean air as it will not grow where there is air pollution. Can you post photos?

    I have the same thing on my magnolia tree but it doesn’t look like lichen. Its raised white clusters where the leaves meet the branch. Also the tree is dripping a heavy sap type substances.

    The addition of the “dripping a heavy sap type substances” makes it sound like scale insects. The stuff that is dripping is referred to as honey dew. This is a potentially bad problem and should be treated by a licensed pesticide operator.
