magnolia tree fungus?

I have a pink-flowered magnolia tree in my backyard and this year for the first time several main branches have appeared to die. I’m concerned because the same thing happened to my neighbors backyard tree (which is a totally different species). I live on the far northwest side of Chicago. Is there some type of fungus or other disease affecting trees in this area?

Thanks for your help.

  1. Plant Clinic Says:

    Dear Kris:

Nearly every plant has a disease or insect that attacks it. In order to answer your question correctly, we need to get some more information about the magnolia. Please call the Plant Clinic at 630-719-2424 between 10-4 Monday through Saturday and we’d be happy to help.
