When a high wind storm came through our lot, this summer, it split our young maple tree. I’m trying to save it by putting pruning solution on the splitted area and securing it with black electrical tape. So far it seems to be keeping the tree healthy. Winter is just around the corner, and I’m wondering if there is any thing I can do to ensure it’s healthy growth.

Dave, the protocol nowadays discourages the use of the black pruning paint. I alos recommend having an arborist install a rod and or cables to secure the split. They will know what it needs.
