		<description>This does not sound like a borer problem. Are there dead branches or do you see small D-shaped holes in the trunk? It could also be a canker or a fungal disease called wetwood.

		<description>I&#039;m not sure about the discoloration. That is something I would have to see. The white bark Birches have a common insect problem in the bronze Birch borer. This can kill the tree if the infestation gets bad enough. You would see dieback of parts of the canopy and exit holes. This is usually treated with a direct trunk injection. Consult with a certified arborist.</description>
