Recycling pots from nurseries

[ comment ] [ email article ] [ print article ] [ rss feed ]

Diane C.
Does anyone know of a local program that will collect all types of pots? My employer will only take the pots that originate from his greenhouse. In the meantime, my collection of pots is growing. Our municipal recycling program will not accept any black or painted plastic, regardless of the number stamped on it. The Chicago Tribune published an article on this situation recently and it appears that we don’t have a consistent pot recycling program in the Chicago area.

You might try, “We Grow Dreams” 1055 W. Washington St, West Chicago, 60185, 630-293-0100. http://wegrowdreams.org

Diane, you might also want to try Midwest Groundcovers in St. Charles. They do a limited pot recycling program through area garden centers like The Growing Place, but I believe they may also accept plastic pots from the general public. They accept certain sizes, but I think both black plastic and white or green. http://www.midwestgroundcovers.com.

Home depot took all my plastic pots and trays back, regardless of origin.
