Spring Bulbs

This is probably an easy question but here goes. The ice has shoved many of my bulbs to the surface of the ground. What is the best way to care for them until it’s warm enough? Is covering them with 2″ of dirt adequate?

  1. dtaylor, Morton Arboretum Plant Clinic Says:

Freezing and thawing of the ground has probably caused the bulbs to work their way out of the soil. A few inches of soil or woodchip mulch over the exposed bulbs will help to protect them until the ground thaws and you can push them back into the soil. If roots are established, the bulbs should flower this year.
