In 2007 I had an Autumn Blaze maple tree planted in our backyard. It was doing ok until this summer. Right now the top center and south west branches are turning yellow to orange/brown. Just recently I noticed a split on the truck. The split is at least a foot to a foot and one half long and has some oozing. The split starts about 4′ from the base of the tree at ground level. Is this a canker decease and can the tree be saved? Please help! What should I do?

I planted one of these in my front yard about 4 years ago and it is growing well.
I was told it was a tree that spread out sort of like a bush. It is doing that but I don’t know whether I should trim it. I would like it to grow taller. Would pruning it help?
Also, I have never fertilized the tree–should I?
Thank you.

When a high wind storm came through our lot, this summer, it split our young maple tree. I’m trying to save it by putting pruning solution on the splitted area and securing it with black electrical tape. So far it seems to be keeping the tree healthy. Winter is just around the corner, and I’m wondering if there is any thing I can do to ensure it’s healthy growth.
On a mature maple tree, at the base of where a sizeable branch was removed several years ago, a fairly good sized hole has developed (about 4-6″ wide/deep). Is there something that can be done to fill it and keep this side of the tree from deteriorating further? There have been problems with carpenter ants in the past, though no evidence of it at the “hole”. Thanks so much, in advance!

Name: Michael L
Email: foundmyemail@gmail.com
Hello,

We have several Fremont Maple trees that are becoming infested with orange balls on the leaves. Millions of them enough to change the color of the leaves from green to orange.

I asked in care of tree’s service and they did not have any information on this and did not know how to help it except to say it looks like the after effects of a spide mite or bug like a shell of an egg.

Please help as I could not find any information on this on the internet. This is happening in Zone 5A – Barrington, IL

Please see the pictures below if you would like to see a sample [paste into browser]:

http://img191.imageshack.us/i/photo2ywa.jpg/

http://img197.imageshack.us/i/photo1oy.jpg/

Please help as it happening on the Maple strain in this area.

Any information on what this actually is and what can be done. I am noticing that it is taking some of the nourishment from the tree as the leaf groups drop as no longer able to get a flow.

Thank you.
